Unique Suite of Solutions for Safe, Reliable Spoolable Pipelines

The integrity process for FlexSteel pipe begins at our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Baytown, Texas. Here, 100% of manufactured pipe is subjected to an 8-hour hydrostatic test to verify structural integrity. This factory acceptance hydrotest is conducted at 1.5x nominal pressure rating in a spooled manner to ensure product integrity conditions that exceed any field condition.

Once deployed in the field, FlexSteel pipe has a series of tests to confirm fit for service. Post installation integrity management techniques include:

  • ShieldSure® Annulus Test

  • Field Hydrotest

  • Long Term Annulus Pressure Monitoring

SHIELD INTEGRITY TESTING

Once the FlexSteel pipeline has been installed, ShieldSure annulus test ensures the integrity of the pipe’s shield. The ShieldSure annulus test pneumatically confirms that the HDPE shield is fully intact and protecting the steel reinforcement from potential external corrosion. FlexSteel recommends an initial test be performed prior to the field hydrostatic pressure test to verify there is no cover damage from handling and installation. The ShieldSure test may also be conducted at periodic intervals during the operation of the pipeline.

FIELD HYDROTESTING

A field hydrostatic test demonstrates that the pipeline system is leak-tight at the fitting connections. Per API standards, the connected fittings are the strongest component of the system. Naturally, the commissioning hydrotest is critical to confirm these fittings create a leak-tight seal, serving as the most critical component of the pipeline system. The test can also be used periodically to re-verify pipeline integrity.

ANNULUS MONITORING

As a continuation of the ShieldSure Annulus Test, FlexSteel line pipe operators may choose to apply real-time pressure monitoring. By maintaining positive pressure on the pipe annulus, shield integrity can be connected via pressure transmitter directly into a SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) system for real time monitoring.
