The Challenge
One of the largest operators in the Permian Basin needed to replace a damaged 9.5-mile steel pipeline ravaged by internal erosion and corrosion. The replacement pipeline had to be agile enough to navigate the many points of inflection (PIs) and bends identified throughout the company’s installation runs. Due to the company’s tight installation schedule and corrosion concerns, conventional steel pipe with a compression joining system would be too time-consuming to use, threatening the operator’s production schedule. To address these concerns, the operator searched for a corrosion-resistant pipeline solution that could be installed quickly and easily.
The Solution
After reviewing various options, the operator turned to FlexSteel 6-inch, 750 psi pipe as the prime replacement for the damaged steel pipeline. The pipe’s high-density polyethylene inner and outer layers eliminated concerns about corrosion. The pipe’s spoolable design allowed the operator to streamline its installation process and effortlessly navigate around tight PIs. In addition, FlexSteel offered its Delivered-to-Length™ installation method, a service that provides cut-to-length pipe and inventory management for specific installation projects.
Along with providing pipe, FlexSteel worked with the operator to devise a seamless and safe deployment plan. The FlexSteel team initiated a critical onboarding meeting between the operator and construction company as part of the deployment plan. This ensured best practices were followed and the stated value for the FlexSteel pipe installations was recognized.
The Result
The differences were staggering when the operator compared their previous 9.5-mile compression/mechanical jointed steel installation against the 9.5-mile FlexSteel pipeline installation. The FlexSteel pipe installation outpaced the original timeline by 15 days, allowing the operator to accelerate their time to production. FlexSteel pipe permitted the operator to slash their total installation cost compared to conventional steel by significantly minimizing crew and equipment requirements. Thrilled by this success, the operator has committed to using FlexSteel pipe for future projects.
